In memoriam: Maureen Roszkowski

Maureen Roszkowski, who spent two semesters as a reporter and associate news editor for The Lion’s Roar, died Nov. 11, 2022, at her home in Mandeville.

She was 70 years old.

Maureen, a native of New York, came to Southeastern in the mid 1990s after just having moved to Louisiana while following her husband, George, who was a geologist in the oil and gas industry. The two lived in Bakersfield, Calif., and Jakarta, Indonesia before settling in Mandeville.

She became a teacher, first teaching CPR and first aid and then English and reading later in life. She was a conversationalist. She would “talk your ear off if you let her,” according to her obituary, and had a life-long passion for learning.

She was survived by a son and daughter-in law, Michael George and Carol Marie Roszkowski, two grandchildren and six siblings.
